AAA rechargeable batteries: great for household items

AAA rechargeable batteries, although rather difficult to pronounce, are of great benefit to consumers. These batteries help reducing costs as the demand for energy continues to rise among users of consumer household items. Ever since it first entered the market, AAA rechargeable technology has considerably reduced the costs of production and even helped in reducing environmental pollution, otherwise a major threat because of the use of dry-cell batteries and their massive disposal.

AAA rechargeable batteries are available in two types: NiCd (Nickel Cadmium) or Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride). Both of them have been tested for bio-hazards and have been found safe for consumer use. As most modern gadgets are designed in a highly efficient manner, AAA rechargeable technology can be used conveniently in domestic consumer electronic products.

The American National Standards Institution (ANSI) has fixed some guidelines for safe and ethical production of AAA rechargeable batteries. These rules and specifications cover among other aspects the sizes and weights of these batteries. According to ANSI specifications, AAA rechargeable batteries should not exceed 44.5mm in length and 10.5mm in cross-section. Each AAA rechargeable battery should not also weigh more than a fixed limit.

The operating voltage of a rechargeable battery is less than that of standard non-rechargeable AAA batteries. This is of little concern as rechargeable batteries have been designed to last a life time and more than 500 charges. As far as their design is concerned, AAA rechargeable batteries consist of a single chamber. Because of this, AAA rechargeable batteries are also called electrochemical cells.
